If you're a busy Los Angeles local, you may feel like you need a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. But let's be honest - planning a getaway can be daunting and time-consuming. Luckily, Salvation Mountain offers the perfect weekend escape just three hours outside of LA. Once you hit the road towards Salvation Mountain, you'll get to leave the smoggy city behind and experience the beautiful natural landscapes that Southern California has to offer. The drive is filled with so many mountain views, rolling hills, and anonymous sculptures that the urge to pull over and snap away is irresistible.

Once you make it to Salvation Mountain, you'll be immediately struck by its rich colors and whimsical designs. Built by the late artist Leonard Knight, the mountain is a tribute to his love of God and his desire to spread joy and happiness to everyone who visits. Knight spent over three decades building and painting the mountain, using only simple tools and materials he found around his property to create his masterpiece. The second you track off the beaten road you'll find yourself surrounded by towering sculptures, brightly painted buildings, and delicate mosaics that seem to glow in the desert sun. What's more, Salvation Mountain is not just a static monument - it's a living, breathing work of art that continues to evolve and change over time. Visitors are encouraged to contribute their own artwork and messages to the mountain, creating a collaborative and ever-changing canvas that reflects the diverse perspectives and experiences of the many travelers who make their “pilgrimage”. If you're like me, you'll spend hours exploring the mountain and the little quirks that make it so special. I urge you to even find a spot with a tire under the tree (there are many!) and give yourself a few beats of deep breaths & silence to take in natures whispered words.

All in all, Salvation Mountain is the perfect destination for anyone needing a break from their busy routine, and eager to experience something unique and inspiring.
